I refer to a recent letter from Mr Upton regarding the Speculative Society.

Whilst such organisations and societies may well discuss varied topics of general public interest, there is also a general public perception, they unduly influence some aspects of public life, including the justice system. My personal observations of the justice system over the last five years certainly support this perception. In my opinion, this problem is in part derived from a general lack of accountability, transparency and consistency relating to the decision making processes of the justice system. Until these perceptions are addressed in a meaningful way, the scottish justice system will continue to be viewed by many as an elitist private club run at times for the benefit of its members.
